The designer's favourites
Which kitchen is your personal favourite?
Without hesitation, Classic. I had a Classic kitchen in smoked oak in my previous home, and to me it represents timeless design at its very best.
I've always been drawn to classic craftsmanship and enduring design. There's something deeply compelling about objects created with care and intention - qualities embodied by Danish masters such as Hans J. Wegner, Arne Jacobsen and Børge Mogensen throughout the 1950s and 1960s. The same philosophy is reflected in the Classic kitchen, originally designed by Arne Munch in 1968. Its finely crafted joinery details and restrained elegance have made it a true design icon.
I grew up with a father who was a cabinetmaker and spent countless hours in his workshop. It was there that I learned an important lesson: exceptional craftsmanship is often found in the details that remain unseen. If something is worth making, it is worth making well. Although I chose a different profession, that principle continues to guide my work. My craft is understanding how people live and creating kitchens that stand the test of time - both functionally and aesthetically.
Which worktop would you choose for a new kitchen?
I'm naturally drawn to authentic materials. Wood, stone and steel each possess a character that only becomes more beautiful with time. If I were designing my own kitchen today, I would choose a Classic kitchen in oak paired with a Blue Roma quartzite worktop. I have always admired natural stone with distinctive movement and depth - it brings a sense of life and individuality that cannot be replicated. The subtle grey-green tones and warm veining complement oak beautifully, particularly alongside details in copper or brass. Quartzite is an exceptional material, combining the durability and practicality of granite with the refined elegance of marble. It offers the best of both worlds.
What couldn't you live without in your own kitchen?
The seating around the kitchen island. It's where friends and family naturally gather, enjoying a glass of wine while I cook. The transformation of the kitchen into the heart of the home - a place not simply for preparing food but for spending time together - is one of the greatest developments in modern living.
Your most important advice when buying a new kitchen?
Choose a designer who takes the time to understand you. A kitchen is one of the most significant investments you make in your home, and its impact on everyday life should never be underestimated. The finest kitchens emerge when functionality, aesthetics and the way you live are considered as one. That can only happen through thoughtful dialogue, careful listening and a genuine commitment to finding the solution that feels right for you.
